Complete Map0-Map5 Spawned?
Hello, Ive never ran a 56b server with all maps opened and spawned. Granted, I will probably not open all map0-map5, has anyone spawned all maps entirely and had a decent size client base on it? Ranging between 100-500 players?. I was just wondering what type of server specs were needed for a fully spawned world with that many mobiles. If anyone could give me some personal experiences of what they have encountered while having a shard completely spawned with a decent amount of players. Thanks ahead of time Smile

Just a heads up the market for a new shard is quite low. For this reason i suggest only having one map in which players can run around. By all means make sphere load 5 maps and use the dungeons but by having that much room for players to run around in it means that they won't actually interact. If you don't script your shard around player interaction then they will just get bored and leave. Smile

There is tons of want for new shards and still tons of people who play ultima online. I didn't have any false hopes of thinking that I would spawn every map and instantly 2,000 players would hop on and fill all the maps. I was just asking what type of server specs is needed for a fully spawned world with an average player base. However, I was just wondering how sphere56b would handle a fully spawned world with a decent client base?

The average registered statistically in the past is between 300-700 clients playing simultaneously for the most popular sphere shards if my memory serves, no matter wich version running, things haven't changed internally to decrease the number. Sphere is supposed to handle around 1000 incoming connections if that answer your question. The low activity nowadays for live shards is not related to the capacity and power of the emulator, it's just because lot of people abandoned the UO scene and that goes for sphere admins and players. Of course we don't know of anyone with a large player base using nightly builds yet but I don't think that any of the new implementations by Cube are changing anything related to network behaviour so we have no theory against the stability of these builds.

You can start by telling us your specs and then you will get your second answer.

This is kinda scary.. lol I know my shard will very well, very quickly just by past shards, amount of contacts, emails and current conversations. I guess if we experience any severe problems I hope that there will be one of you vets around to help out ;p

P.S. you mean to tell me there are ZERO large sphere shards out currently?

I didn't mean to say that...
There is no server that I'm aware running under a recent NIGHTLY BUILD with a large amount of players. But the current scenario is very poor actually no matter wich EMU you're running, UO player base for freeshards has decreased in general. A lot of people didn't migrated their servers to a recent build keeping their old ones from 51 and 55 series and most of the projects that were started under the latest releases didn't went live or at least I don't have enough information about them. I personally always check the enviroment to see how things are going.

But our plan here in spherecommunity regardless of the work done behind the scenes to the source by MrSugarCube is to revamp sphere in all of its aspects and to deliver some kind of a preconfigured server for everyone to work and by these terms hosting official servers in a long term run. Golden years of Ultima has gone but no one knows what could happen in a near future, anyways we're still here working hard in our free time Smile
