RE: Open Source!
For lurkers or for people that doesn't read or doesn't understand english well or any reason so they know that devs doesn't have it, so they don't loose time asking us. Better approach? Smile

BTW: This thread is about sphere going open source, asking for anything should be outside this post, create a post (maybe in General Help?) to request that sources Smile

RE: Open Source!
Hello to everybody.

I´m one of these guys too who are trying to replicate 51a into 56b. I was registered in sphereserver.net forums with some activity back in 2009-2010. I tried it a bit sometimes with better results than others and now i have some free time at nights and i script something for fun. Now that i remember sphereserver.net got lost and after a while this one bloomed at these years.

I saw some people from this community in this thread who are following the same way as me, trying to replicate 51a into 56b and asking for 51a source, so i´ll try to help a little bit, just my 2 cents...

I have a shard wich was the work of another person, not my own (runuo 1.0 emu). It was designed by a guy who used to call himself "Makaveli". Makaveli gave this shard to a friend to keep it open (with some tweaks from my friend) and he left uo, before that he scripted one shard with two merge shards too. Well, The intention of makaveli was to put the 51a/48e source code into runuo source, creating an unique runuo core that it emulated 51a style (no cilocs, same crafting menus, same combat mechanics, +1,+3,+5 enhancet weapons and armors, everything..) plus avoiding the exploits and bugs that 48e/51a versions had with the runuo core.
Makaveli built a masterpiece, back in 2006 no one could do it in runuo and he did it. The server was an amazing replica of 48e XUO into runuo even with the same hues files. Everything looked that you were playing in a 51a/48e shard, but highest versions of uo clients and uo versions like AOS or ML stole some feelings that 1.26.4b client and uo reinnasance gave to players (in terms of fast-smooth i think so) but the shard work was incredible. XUO was based in novus opiate, it was opened when novus went down in september of 2001 and closed in 2004 due to TEOT abuse from people, migrating runuo to avoid that. My friend had to shut the shard down due to low population in 2010 or so and gave it to me for if i wanted to keep it alive. I didn´t wanted because sphere launched the 56b version and decided to start from the scratch with sphere for having fun to create mine.

I dont know if all of that is true or i dind´t got it the right way or even remember well, but there was many people from xuo that was involved in sphere so it could be possible and the one who created this runuo had all previous xuo versions even the 48e one.

Is there anyway to go back through the 51a code from this runuo core and copy all the mechanics into 56b core?.Because that would be very helpful. If some mods or devs from the forums wants the core from the shard, to take a look or see what´s going on there i can give it. Greetings.

RE: Open Source!
You can port them by translating the code, but RunUO works in C# and Sphere in C++, so there's no 'plug & play' way to do so.

I'm interested on the critical differences between 56C (56b is not being developed anymore) and 51a to add them as settings or, at least, as scripts (Please, note that with differences I request something more specific than 'combat was different', I ask for numbers and examples we can replicate, test and change/fix/adapt, for example recently SpeedEra was added to replicate that old behaviours ... so something that can be added like that would be helpful).

RE: Open Source!
Thanks for response XuN.

The main problem is that i dont know nothing about c#, i always had sphere shards and used to script in sphere language.

im using 56b because if i use it with lower clients version and uo reinassance it loads the same gumps, craft gumps and stuff that 51a did (try it, you will see how sphere changes, thats the 51a look and the diference people talk about), but the combat is hard to tweak, i tried 6 years ago with archery and it was impossible for me. If i can do this in 56c i have no problems in switching to it. Furthermore i´m not interested in scp pack because i see it very focused on lastest uo versions wich i´m not interested in (it´s logical that it keeps updating pararel to uo updates).

The only problem for me is the combat system (sphere56 can run very close like 51a loading the way i said), maybe if i try hard with events and stuff within a few months i can make some advance, but doing it in the core without worrying about it just would be perfect. i used to change the weapon enhanhced +1,+3,+5,+7 and +9 just changing one of the mores in the scripts, but some things are hard as hell to change like i want to.

i could ask my friend when i see it, but he´s busy with work and lives in another city, so that can take months surely, better start learning c# hehe.
I keep what i said, if i can help out just let me know.

Greetings.

RE: Open Source!
I think you are confusing SCP with Sphere itself and it's default script pack, SCP was a script pack 'improvement' to match OSI standards ... which is NOT done in the default one.

Switching between uo clients WONT make load different gumps (it only depends on your files), crafting gump for default script pack is the very same that always, the only different gumps you will see are the .add and .admin ones, which are about making your life easier and do not have anything to do with gameplay at all.

And, as I said, to change anything 'values' must be given... ( X weapon had DAM=n, now it has y, same for speed, same for characters and their stats, everything), 'was different' sais nothing.
