I did in the past from 51a to 55i and from 55i to 56b/c.
Usually there aren't any problems between those sphere versions but i never used TUS son i don't know...
I think TUS and 51a should be not so different you can make a try.

Anyway keep in mind that if you have something new in the world (something not standard or not defined as [ITEMDEF 0512]) you will lose it if you don't re-script in the right way.
I think TUS still not have the DEFNAME definition...

If you have a bigger world and if this world will be never changed maybe the best option is to make a static file.
