I'm sure you can't use verdata.mul but you can get the things from it and apply in the properly files...
As you know, verdata.mul holds lots of changes, of various files, like art.mul, anim.mul, gumpart.mul etc..
So I'm quite sure you can split it on the files, or just make an patcher with muleditor that will apply in the right files.

The best way is use the patcher, but will not work on .uop files.
