[Poll] Cleanout on /scripts/speech folder - Coruja - 04-13-2014 06:23 AM

Sphere has a millions of weird code on /scripts/speech/job*.scp (93 files)

99% of this huge code are useless conversations, like this:
Quote:Player says: job
Vendor says: I'm a baker

Player says: bread
Vendor says: Dost thou plan to buy some bread?

Player says: what are you doing
Vendor says: What are you, an idiot? I be baking!
wtf? Confused

I think all these conversations can be removed from sphere script pack, it will save many hundreds of code lines and will make everything much more clean. Also can save a little performance on server too, because vendors wont need to filter this huge list of words anymore when someone is speaking near them

What do you think?

I totally agree with you Coruja.
I never ever ever seen anyone talking with npcs, lol.
I know everyone likes to use the sphere in their servers, but we have a lot of nationalities using it, and everything is in english..
If you look at brazilian servers, no one knows whats words can be spoken to have this interation.

It is useless until you have a rpg server with custom talks..

Would be nice have the option for disable this on the Sphere.ini Big Grin

They're were called once as convo fragments from RunUO team (UOGamers: Rebirth). Looking a both Sphere's and RunUO's the conversations are the same which let me think that OSI used these conversations to simulate living npcs. I also heard some stories about one of main ideas of UO in early estages, that was about living biomes.

Yes I agree the conversations consume performance, I don't care having my NPC's saying things, but I never seen anyone even asking where other shops are located.

On the contrary, i think they are important for the roleplaying, in a roleplay shard, and their dialogues NEED a consistent improvement, i already suggested something, and waiting Smile
The option to -not- use the dialogues is good, for address the needs of the PVP/ANY servers, and i agree with that, but i don't if u talk about a removing.

I don't really think improving them is a good idea... take a look on their size!!! it's insane xD.

They can be rared into this folder remaining only the basics conversations so it they can be extracted and used by anyone that wants to 'see words over vendor's head' Smile

I think the best solution would be to remove the entries from the standard-scripts, but to include something like "enhanced_speech.zip" to the Sphere-Scripts.

That way, everyone could decide if the simple (compact) files are used, or the "big ones".

Fact is, the actual versions can only be used if you use an aos-installation. In the past years several changes where made to the official servers, so "our" speechfiles can't be used without modifications.

As for Custom-Shards (Own Map and/or statics) the speechfiles don't work at all.
