Why female gargoyle can't equip weapons and shields?
If you try you get the system message "you can't equip this".
So, if you are a baseid c_gargoyle_male with equipped weapons and try the command .body c_gargoyle_female then your character will drop your equipment.

check the can= flags in your script chardef from the gargoyle female

CAN=mt_xxx
Look in spheredefs.scp for more CAN flags. CAN is placed in the chardef area of your character script. It should have mt_ghost (for death) and can_mt_equip, can_mt_usehands, etc etc, have a look.
