New Release?
i call its time for a new updated "stable" release!
56b with SOME sort of organization and structure to the scp files...

with the latest maps, entrance and exits, items, weps, armor ect...
OSI like, but with Sphere's unique legacy

obviously if the SphereCommunityPack 2.0 is newer, take that, check it, fix, and run with it...

One unified release, and not this auto nightly build shit...

RE: New Release?
Do you have any idea how many times this has been asked?
What do you think the purpose of the nightly build is for? oh wait, let me tell you... it's to work out the bugs and get it to a stable state!!! There is absolutely no difference between a release and a nightly build, except for the AGREE line in the sphere.ini and a warning message when you start the server.
Now the problem is, no one seems to think that the nightlies are stable... so what's the point of an unstable release?

As for the script pack... You want something updated, send me the update! The whole community can help with that part.
*hint* this is the open source part of the server...*hint*
The SCP2.0 is virtually non-existant. It's just another empty promiss by the community.

The Devs can only work on so much at a time... You guys need to pitch in where you can, if not, things move slowly.

I'll see what I can do about an official release, but I can't promiss anything.

RE: New Release?
an updated official release is way over due...

and when stuff is actually changed inside the scp file

Code:
//****************************************************************************
// SPHERE by : Menasoft ©1997-2007
// www.sphereserver.net
// All SPHERE script files and formats are copyright Menasoft & Partners.
// This file may be freely edited for personal use, but may not be distributed
// in whole or in part, in any format without express written permission from
// Menasoft & Partners.  All donations and contributions
// become the property of Menasoft & Partners.
//****************************************************************************
// FILE LAST UPDATED: Monday, November 24, 2003
//
VERSION=0.56b

change the header! =)

i want to use the latest client with the newest stuff, preferably straight from the dev team...

collect, debug, and release more

RE: New Release?
I think, we doesn't need "the stable version every 3 years", because now it may strongly reduce the nightly users and testers and is a path to the stagnation.

But I think, that is bad that you can download only the last nightly build. If user is find some problems with the last build, he can't compare it with previous builds, if he doesn't have "collection" of its.
And if you have its, you need to compare random builds, and it is hard to diagnose, that change was bad.
Also, one admin uses build #1234(example) and think that it is stable. Anyone can't download this build #1234, only the last one.
I suggest:
1) Add to site full SVN log( http://sphere.torfo.org/log/ ) without deleting after 14 days.
2) Add old builds to the site. I don't know, that is with the allowed place on your host... The best variant is to make a possibility to download any build, if you don't have place for this, may be every 10th or something like this...

Also, why? Because now we have issues like:
http://tracker.sphere.torfo.org/bugs/view.php?id=1887
And anyone know, that is the reason, because we doesn't have the old build and the old change log.

Also, if we will have this system, will be possible to mark some tested builds, as stable, and move prerelease section to archive, that can increase nightly user and tester count and unite the community more.

A most part of members of the Sphere Comminity are not interested in full latest OSI Style support or it least are not interested to work for it. Smile

RE: New Release?
What I find most amusing about this topic is the fact that it is started by someone who I believe is still using 51a....

RE: New Release?
yeah he is running 51a and the server is hacked to play on.. so many more bugs and problems then 56b hands down. Just ignore 77, I haven't seen him be apart or contribute much to the community in any helpful way.
