I used to run a sphere 55i server many many years ago. Played with ServUO for a while but now I am interested in checking out sphere again. My big question is:
Is there some kind of threat (i tried searching) or something detailing the differences between the 2 different versions? I guess I am pretty confused as to why there is 2 versions and which one is the more popular / supported one.

I hate to ask such a negative question about something I have seen in development since the Damian days. Is Sphere pretty much dead though? I am noticing it's taking days to get responses on the forums and even then its from one of the 2 developers.
Makes me sad.

Look at Discord. The discussion on the forum is very slow, but it works on the Discord. There you will also find the answer to your question, where people described it in the past.

The Forums are not used as much as discord, we don't check it nearly as often. Like Golfin said conversation happens much more quickly on the discord.
