Hi all!
A few others and I were talking about ways to advertise your sphere server... Get it out there.
There don't seem to be alot of possibilities right now, but if we put our heads together, I'm sure we'll be able to come up with a few good tips and dare I say, tricks.
Ranking sites

Uo Top 200
Join Uo
Xtreme top 100
Gtop 100
Ultimate Private Servers Top 200
Mmorpg Top List
Ultima Top 100 (polish)
Top of Games
Games top 100
Servers top 100
Arena Top 100
Other sites/Software
I've also found this nifty site that ranks shards based on online players.
It's pretty cool and a lot of people seem to use it. You're also able to post pics of the shard and comment through social media.
UO is not dead
Selectuo seems fairly new, so not alot of shards have signed up yet.. It's site is basic but clean but it really shines in the software departement:

Referral awards
Giving your players an incentive to invite their friends doesn't seem like a bad idea!
You could give your players in game rewards every time they bring a new player to the shard or after a new player they referred stays for a certain amount of time.
Make sure to check ips and other forms of possible abuse.

as far as the popular ones it seems to be top 200 uogateway and join uo.
i read someone else who had said they posted on reddit about their shard and they got LOTS of people.
i do a facebook and twitter account for my server, but getting the word out seems to be the hardest. how to draw people in by the masses
this topic is a great idea, and maybe we can get some amazing ideas being thrown around.

Yea, facebook seems like a good idea... but the problem with that is that there isn't a platform on which to post facebook links for uoservers. People won't find your shard on facebook unless they already know about it.

Np! But I'm having trouble with looking for other ways to advertise... I've tried looking up "tutorials" or articals on advertising mmo freeservers... But can't seem to find (a good) one. Go figure...

It has been mentioned and some annoying prick also opened a feature request for it on the bug tracker (me) however, it's still not exactly ideal for advertising to player given not too many tend to visit the emulator sites when looking for a shard. Though it would still be useful were it to return.

yah add it in your sphere.ini and your shard is automatically advertised at shardlist.spherecommunity.net *hint hint*
or buy a catchy domain name for it
(like the old 48e 51a days)
